Our F.C.S.S. mandate promotes and encourages volunteerism.

Why Volunteer?

People volunteer for a variety of reasons. It may be a chance to share or develop a new skill. Others may volunteer to explore a new career option. It may also be an opportunity for social interaction. Many find an avenue of self-expression and fulfillment just knowing that they are helping others.

Whatever the reason, lending a helping hand can be very rewarding. Studies indicate that helping others has a positive impact on one's social emotional wellness, which contributes to your overall health.

If you have spare time consider becoming a volunteer. The annual volunteer appreciation lunch we host is a great way to meet our other volunteers and perhaps make lifelong friends.

What you can do as a Volunteer for F.C.S.S.

Meals on Wheels Drivers
Meals on Wheels is a volunteer-based community service that provides hot nutritious meals to people who live in St.Paul and are unable to prepare adequate meals for themselves.

Drivers are scheduled for a one-week period. The meals are to be delivered between 11: 30 and 12:50 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Some volunteers prefer to be a “relief driver” and fill in on short notice and some like to deliver one week at a time every three months. We are flexible and try our best to accommodate different schedules.

Volunteer Income Tax Program (training provided)
Our volunteers complete basic personal tax returns for those that are on a limited income. Clients must meet the criteria that state there is no farming income, rental income, business income or capital gains.

The returns are completed electronically (the software is provided). The client drops off the forms and pertinent information to our office and then we contact the volunteer to see if they are available to complete the return.

Occasional & Administrative Support
Volunteers are required to help with general office duties and help with various events.

Snow Angel Program
Keeping sidewalks shoveled, ice-free and safe can be very challenging - even dangerous - for older adults and anyone with limited mobility. Snow Angels is a campaign that encourages citizens to be good neighbors for those who may be less able to do it themselves.

If you would like to become a Snow Angel, look for a Snow Angel sign in the front yard of individuals in your neighbourhood. Simply shovel snow for someone in need in the community.

How do you become a Volunteer?

Easy! An FCSS application form needs to be completed and depending on the type of volunteering, a criminal record check and/or child welfare check may be necessary. This is done at no cost to the volunteer. The application form is available here.

F.C.S.S. Interviews all potential volunteers to ensure a good "fit" of volunteer interests and opportunities.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, give the FCSS office a call at 780-645-5311 or better yet, drop in to see us! Our friendly staff will happily discuss the possibility of you becoming one of our valued volunteers!
